DUCA DI SALAPARUTA PRESENTS THE NEW LAVICO ETNA DOC LINE

At the Vajasindi Estate, on the slopes of Mt. Etna in an area where the volcanic terrain affords unique characteristics, Duca di Salaparuta decided to experiment with the distinctive aspects of mountain farming. Thus first it gave expression to two native grape varieties, Carricante and Nerello Mascalese; and from there it gave rise to an exciting new project: Lavico Etna DOC. The latter consists of the creation of two very particular wines, Lavico Etna Rosso (Red) and Lavico Etna Bianco (White), both of which are strongly influenced by the terroir where the grape varieties were born. It’s the area north of the Mt. Etna volcano, which enjoys a special microclimate. Here the earth, formed by the crumbling of diverse types of lava and by more recent volcanic materials such as lapillus, ash and sand, offers Lavico Etna Rosso and Lavico Etna Bianco naturally intense, sapid and fresh nuances. They are two wines with deep roots in Mt. Etna, so are offspring of a harsh yet generous nature.

LAVICO ETNA RED

Indigenous to the slopes of Mt. Etna, the Nerello Mascalese grape dates back to ancient times. A grape variety of particular sensitivity, the Nerello Mascalese assumes diverse characteristics according to the area where it is cultivated. On the terraces of the Vajasindi Estate these red grapes give life to Lavico Etna Rosso, an elegant, structured wine, fresh and delicately sapid, aged (partially) for twelve months in French oak barriques.

With an intriguing bouquet where berry scents meet balsamic and mineral sensations, complete with vanilla and spice nuances, Lavico is a balanced wine with a ripe tannin. It’s perfect paired with meat and aged cheeses; and when chilled, also with structured seafood dishes.
